Welcome to the Bay:
Celebrating Lindy Waters III and the Lindy Waters III Foundation
San Francisco, CA – On November 16, 2024, The Lindy Waters III Foundation hosted an event “Welcome to the Bay, Lindy Waters III” with community leaders in Indian Country, industry supporters, and members of the Golden State Warriors family. Held at Thrive City, the district surrounding Chase Center, this special gathering celebrated the arrival of Lindy Waters III in the Bay Area and his foundation's impactful work.
Waters III is the 5th Native American to play basketball in the NBA and has faced many of the same barriers that Native youth encounter today: limited access to high-quality athletics, education, healthcare, and employment opportunities. His foundation recognizes these barriers, and they fuel the commitment to providing critical access, opportunities, and support, empowering Native youth to thrive and succeed in a more equitable future.
The event featured an engaging program with representatives from the Warriors, the Lindy Waters III Foundation, and Waters III himself, sharing insights into the foundation's mission and upcoming initiatives. A silent auction was also held, with all proceeds benefiting the foundation’s ongoing Native youth engagement programs.
This event marks a unique first step to connecting in the Bay Area with prominent voices in Indian Country and supporting an organization committed to uplifting Native youth through sports, wellness, and culture.
“We are here to build networks and open doors for Native American youth,” said Lindy Waters III during the event. “Even though my parents sacrificed everything for me to get to this level, I know that other Native kids don’t have that support system. We want to help provide them with more opportunities to succeed.”
“Lindy’s move to the Bay has opened up new opportunities for us to impact Native youth,” says Loren Waters, Executive Director of the Lindy Waters III Foundation. “We’re excited to build on the work that’s already been done here, uplift other organizations, and bridge gaps in communities. We are not here to compete. We are here to share the love.”
